Oldest Operating McDonald’s

I am currently in LA for an extended period taking a class at the Marilyn Hilton MS Achievement Center. While I feel good, I am not fabulous. Ergo, I am mobile, but cautious as my knee is not 100% from my surgery 7 weeks ago.

Me in front of the McDonald’s in Downey, CA.

So, I am limiting my trips out and about. However, I just had to drive an hour to the sleepy little town of Downey, CA to see the world’s oldest operating McDonald’s. Apparently this McDonald’s is the EXACT building it was all the way back in 1953.

World’s Oldest Operatin McDonald’s.

The restaurant still uses the original McDonald’s mascot, Speedee.Only one left in the world. And Downey’s claim to fame. Well, that and the fact the Carpenters are from Downey.

While it’s cool to see during the day, it’s even better at night when the sign is lit up. You may have to wait a bit, as the lights are on timers.

Speedee!
Lit up arches.
